I am a wife, a mother, an auntie and a friend. I love thrifting, garage sales, re-purposing, creating, painting, anything that makes our little rental home more welcoming, comfortable and cozy. I have discovered the "art" of amateur photography & I love the idea of capturing the beauty in the ordinary everyday things that surround us. Blogging is a wonderful way to make new friends and share with people who have the same interests. My personal taste in decorating leans towards "casual cottage/coastal decor". I now have a small shop on etsy, called "SandySeashore" where you'll find some of my vintage finds, my photography and some handmade things. I hope you take the time to check it out! Thanks for droppin' in!

Old Window - New Purpose

This post is to give you an idea of what you could do with an old window. I was given this old window by my friend Margot a while ago. I originally made a sign for outside, stenciling letters on the back and then attaching the window to the front of our shed. To be honest, I wasn't happy with the result. It just wasn't doing it for me.

I had a new idea. What about using a decal? They are so popular now and so easy to apply, the best part is they are super cheap. I got mine from Aliexpress @ www.aliexpress.com for about $2.50 US.

Secondly I used some black board sticker ordered off of Amazon.com, it comes in a roll like shelf paper. It was also inexpensive, I think about $7.00 including the exchange. I only used a small portion of it, so lots more for other projects.

I started off by scraping the stenciled lettering off of the glass (the one I didn't like), then cleaned it really well with glass cleaner. Out with the old, in with the new.

The decal comes with easy to follow application instructions, depending on the size of the decal, extra hands are helpful. Here's mine, once applied.

I chose the Bon Appetit sign for two reasons, it's going in the kitchen and I am French!

I then cut the black board adhesive paper to the size I wanted it. I could have cut it to fit the window, but I wanted it smaller, because the wall it's going on in finished in wood and I wanted it to show through. It's also very easy to apply, just make sure you get the air bubbles out! After applying it, I
"framed" it with black electric tape, to give it a more finished look.

I then added one of my favorite recipes from Quebec,

got Mikey to hang it for me, and Voila! It's done!

I love that the old chippy & rusted hardware is still on it, just adds to its appeal for me.

So, all spent, about $12.00 for a unique, rustic wall hanging.
I love how it turned out and it suits our kitchen perfectly.
Go ahead, make one yourself, it's super easy & fun!

Thanks for following,
xo
