I am a wife, a mother, an auntie and a friend. I love thrifting, garage sales, re-purposing, creating, painting, anything that makes our little rental home more welcoming, comfortable and cozy. I have discovered the "art" of amateur photography & I love the idea of capturing the beauty in the ordinary everyday things that surround us. Blogging is a wonderful way to make new friends and share with people who have the same interests. My personal taste in decorating leans towards "casual cottage/coastal decor". I now have a small shop on etsy, called "SandySeashore" where you'll find some of my vintage finds, my photography and some handmade things. I hope you take the time to check it out! Thanks for droppin' in!

Garage Sale Goodies!

Ok, so I got a little restless today. Not that I don't already have more than a few projects I could work on laying around...just waiting their turn! I raided the "piggy bank" and off I went. I went to a total of four different garage sales, bought stuff at two of them:

Found this baby, it looked a bit tired, but for $10 (she wanted $15), I figured with a little TLC, it could be beautiful again! They sell at Ikea for $99. It had
"mac tac", or self adhesive shelf paper, on the top, for a reason, I soon found out!

Gross!!! OMG! My first thought was- I hope I haven't bitten off more than I can chew - UGH.

Anyway, here are the other things I found:

I got this little basket with "faux herbs" for $1

Cute little wooden box for $1

this large enamel dish for $2 (love it!)
(the rust stains came out with VIM!)
this pretty little cheese cloche (marble) for $4

I just love this 3 tiered dessert dish for $3
(it has one small chip, but I love it anyway - hey, nobody's perfect, right?)
It's old and made in England (circa 1945)

a counter top water dispenser with the bottle for $5.
All in all, some pretty good little deals there!

"So, what about the ugly duckling?" You ask...
Well, I dragged her outside...

Ugh!
she was too long for the spot I had in mind, so I sawed a few inches off each end...
it was a good way to get rid of some nastiness too!
I started sanding with the little orbital sander, but this thing needed the "big gun"...so out came the all too powerful belt sander!!! After it shot across the yard (LOL) I managed to get some of the grime and cooties off the top!

Ahhhh, much better. I then attacked it with the orbital sander for a softer finish. Sanded the legs, drawers and shelves...
Then came the white paint, of course!

 What a difference!!!
 Check this puppy out!

Not THAT PUPPY! Oops! Did it again, that's the wrong puppy!
(still pretty darned cute though, eh!?)
 Doesn't she look much prettier?
A little sanding in certain areas...for that distressed look I like.

WOW! She has a whole new life now! YAY!
Good makeover!
Seriously, I really like how it turned out.

 What do you think???
the little basket found a home on top of the range.
I put my birds nest in the cloche for now.
The little wooden box is next to the herbs.
These are from my garden, I thought they added a little "pretty" to the kitchen!
They smell just heavenly! And they remind me of when I was a little girl!

Hope you have a great weekend!
Maybe tomorrow I'll tackle some sewing projects...just maybe ;)
Thanks for following!
xx
